Nigerian Government Launches Online Platform To Register Births, Deaths, Verify Certificates

According to the agency, the new self-service platform is designed to eliminate the need for long queues and excessive paperwork previously associated with obtaining birth and death certificates.

The Nigerian government has launched a new digital platform, VitalReg, to enable Nigerians register births and deaths, apply for birth attestation, correct civil registration records and verify certificates online.

The development was announced by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in a statement shared on Tuesday, saying the platform was introduced by the Federal Government through the National Population Commission (NPC) as part of efforts to digitise civil registration services across the country.

According to the agency, the new self-service platform is designed to eliminate the need for long queues and excessive paperwork previously associated with obtaining birth and death certificates.

“The Federal Government, through the National Population Commission (NPC), has launched VitalReg — a fully digital platform that allows Nigerians to register births and deaths, apply for birth attestation, correct records, verify certificates and access other civil registration services online,” the NOA said.

It added, “No more long queues or endless paperwork.”

The agency noted that obtaining a legal identity through proper birth and death registration provides citizens with access to healthcare, education, passports, financial services and other essential government programmes.

The online portal is available at selfservice.nationalpopulation.gov.ng, while Nigerians who require assistance can also visit any National Population Commission registration centre nationwide.

The initiative forms part of the Nigerian Government’s ongoing efforts to expand access to digital public services and improve the country’s civil registration system.
