Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has called on Nigerians to participate in a nationwide protest scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, under the banner of the #RevolutionNow movement.
Sowore announced the planned demonstrations in a post on his verified X account on Monday, urging citizens to join what organisers described as the "Festival of the Oppressed."
"Action across Nigeria tomorrow," Sowore wrote, accompanied by the hashtags #EndBadGovernance and #RevolutionNow.
According to protest flyers shared by the activist, demonstrations will commence at 8:00 a.m. simultaneously in Maryland, Lagos; Berger, Abuja; Ring Road, Benin City; and Mokola Roundabout, Ibadan, with organisers indicating that other locations across the country may also participate.

They also demanded the implementation of a ₦500,000 national minimum wage, the restoration of fuel subsidy, and the withdrawal of all criminal charges against Sowore.
Other demands include holding the President's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, accountable over alleged abuses of office, removing the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Tosin Ajayi, and opposition to what the organisers described as xenophobia.
The protest materials also carried the message, "Trump hands off Nigeria's territorial integrity," although no further explanation was provided for the demand.
The organisers adopted the slogan: "Our demands. Our rights. Our future. Take It Back. Take Back Nigeria."
The planned demonstrations come almost one year after the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests of August 2025, during which thousands of Nigerians took to the streets to protest rising inflation, widespread hunger, insecurity and the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.
The August 2025 protests witnessed clashes between security operatives and demonstrators in several states, leading to arrests, injuries and fatalities. Rights groups accused security agencies of using excessive force against peaceful protesters, while authorities maintained that some demonstrations were hijacked by violent elements.
Sowore, a longstanding critic of successive Nigerian governments and convener of the Take It Back Movement, has repeatedly led nationwide protests demanding improved governance, accountability and respect for citizens' rights.
The latest mobilisation comes amid continuing public discontent over the country's worsening cost-of-living crisis, persistent insecurity and concerns over shrinking civic space.
