Residents in Iree, Osun State, have reportedly confronted and subdued a man alleged to be a political thug during the ongoing governorship election.
A video circulating on social media showed a group of residents confronting the individual, whom they accused of being a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The incident occurred amid heightened concerns over alleged vote buying and election-related violence in parts of the state.
The source of the video claimed that residents had “come out to neutralize one of APC thugs in Iree,” suggesting that voters were determined to protect their ballots.
In a separate development, another video purportedly showed some Osun youths seizing money allegedly intended for vote buying by APC supporters.
DAILY POST reports that voters across the state are electing the next occupant of the Bola Ige Government House for a four-year term.
A total of 15 political parties are participating in the election, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
Two candidates, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and Simon Adewale of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, had withdrawn from the contest.
While Adeyemi-Doro endorsed the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, Adewale declared support for Adeleke. Despite their withdrawals, APGA and APM remain on the ballot.
