- Fallacy, I Am a Bona Fide Ijesa Man – Alabama Fires Back
The Treasurer of the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Femi Kujenbola, has alleged that the Accord Party’s candidate for Ijesa South Federal Constituency, Popoola Alaba, popularly called Alabama, is not an indigene of Ijesaland but hails from Ogbomoso in Oyo State.
Kujenbola made the allegation during an interdenominational prayer session organised by Ayeni Support Group for candidates of the party in the forthcoming general elections on Thursday.
In a video obtained by OSUN DEFENDER, Kujenbola, who is also the leader of the party in the Ijesa South Federal Constituency, stated that it is an absurdity for the Accord Party to present a non-Ijesa man to represent Ijesa people in the National Assembly.
Look at our House of Representatives candidate for Ijesa South Federal Constituency. It is an absurdity that the Accord Party could present someone who is not an Ijesa man as a candidate to represent Ijesa people,” he said.
He alleged that the Accord candidate came from Ogbomoso and therefore lacks the understanding and legitimacy to represent Ijesaland.
“There is no way someone who came from Ogbomoso will come to represent us in Ijesaland. It is not possible. We should not sell our right. Let us vote for Sanya Omirin to return to the House of Representatives,” he declared.
The APC Treasurer said the difference between the candidates of the APC and those of the Accord Party was clear, likening it to “comparing a graduate to someone who just entered Primary School.”
He urged voters to support APC candidates across board, insisting they are better positioned to deliver dividends of democracy.
Reacting, Mr Suara Akanni, the media aide to the Accord Party candidate, described the allegation as fallacy and a product of political desperation.
“We are in the political season, and anyone can come up with any nonsense to label their opponents. Alabama is an Ijesa man. He has his birth lineage in Ijesaland. His family house is in Ijesaland,” Akanni said.
He urged the people of Ijesaland to disregard the claim, saying the APC chieftain was only jittery over impending defeat.
“So, what the APC Treasurer said was nothing but a fallacy, and the good people of Ijesaland should disregard him. He is only being jittery about the impending defeat of the APC in the forthcoming election,” he added.
